In an interview with Publisher’s Weekly, Kodansha USA Publishing CEO Yoshio Irie confirmed that his company is planning to release a new manga version of the TV anime series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The anime is itself based on Masamune Shirow’s original Ghost in the Shell manga, although no manga adaptation of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex was released in Japan.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex spawned three novels and several art books in 2004′s Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Visual Book and the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG Visual Book, released in 2006 which included short anthologies of original four-panel gag manga by Eiichiro-Mashin, Ranma Kusumi, Ko-ji Sugitani and others.
Irie did not specify if Kodansha USA’s “new manga version” refers to new English editions of these materials, or an entirely different manga adaptation exclusive to the US market.
