home-logos-bandaiFollowing up on the original Bandai Entertainment restructuring report, several posts on Mania Anime from a former Bandai Entertainment employee confirm that the company has begun to layoff production staff.  The situation began early last week when the distributor confirmed that it would restructure by removing full-time positions and moving affected staff to long-term contracts.

Now comes word that several employees involved in production were in fact laid off including former Kurokami producer Toshifumi Yoshida, who was the most recent hire at the division only having worked there since last May.  The situation first came to light via cryptic commentary left on the source code of the Bandai page, but then escalated to the microblogging service Twitter, where employees were posting more cryptic messages on the Twitter service indicating that those that were posting updates were no longer employees of the company in any form that ended up being posted in the above linked thread and syndicated on the Bandai Twitter page before being pulled entirely.

The situation had escalated to such an extent last night that the Dot-Anime webmaster was forced to pull the Twitter presence out of fear that the posters were either inebriated or giving out confidential information. As of today, the production blog has also been pulled from the main Bandai page for as yet unknown reasons.

With this new development, it remains to be seen whether or not the recent indefinite delays for the standalone Gurren Lagann soundtrack release and the Limited Edition version of Lucky Star Volume 6 were indeed caused by poor sales, or reflect an even more dire situation for the distributor than previously thought.
