Best Buy to Discontinue Anime Sales In Stores (Updated Again)

best-buyUpdate: ICV2 has confirmed that Best Buy will remove anime offerings from 460 stores across the country via 50% off sales due to begin on March 1st to the 21st. After the sale, the affected stores will only carry the top 20 titles, while the top 500 stores in anime sales will continue with their current anime selection with no changes.

Another 200 stores will carry the top 100 titles with the above changes meant to retain anime within the supply chain without having to deal with stock and inventory issues.

Slight vindication for sounding the alarm earlier this year, but vindication doesn’t pay bills.

    I HIGHLY advise that you provide a source to back up your article, because no other anime news source (such as ANN) have confirmed that this is true.

    Yes I would like to see some proof as well since what is being stated in this article isn’t completely true. All we know is that Best Buy is cutting back on Anime, not discontinuing it.

    That’s weird. I’ve noticed Best Buy actually INCREASING the number of anime it carries in most of the locations near where I live.

    http://tinyurl.com/7qvbsy Wonder if this is true. If so, really bad news for anime in the US!

    @DickMcVengeance http://tinyurl.com/7qvbsy I think you’re going to be okay.

    Let’s face it,

    Anime has never been pushed or promoted properly. There’s no true marketing campaign other than shows in some…i do mean some… overly edited series on off hours on tv unless you pay for a package deal that gives you lots of other channels you could care less about.. Any article written on a series seems to be usually skewed to being GREAT and never described for what niche it is and when you finally buy a copy because of the hype you wonder why it was GREAT when you you feel you’d been had and lied to only to get a DVD or set, and that you’re really disappointed in and had to spend top dollar to do it, then swear off buying any more until someone you know buys something, then either gives you the low down or the DVD because they’re never gonna watch it again….. Cripes, Anime pedlars have me feeling sooooooo used.
