Hulu Now Blocking PS3 Browser Access

AnimeNews and CentralGadget have been able to confirm that Hulu has begun actively blocking access to the streaming service to PS3 web browser users since early this morning.

Attempts to access content from Fox, NBC, Funimation, and other content providers have been met with the “This video/content is not available on your platform” messages when attempting to stream programming from the site, with as yet no official explanation from Hulu.

Speculation has run high that the streaming service is actively looking to enforce the strict separation between TV and internet programming ever since the protracted cat and mouse game began with social streaming media platform boxee being blocked from direct Hulu access earlier this year.

Another salvo was fired when Hulu released a dedicated desktop client that was meant to drive away other third-party plugins that used workarounds for Hulu access.

While Hulu access on the PS3 left something to be desired in terms of reliability and usability, it was still the easiest plug and play method to enjoy Hulu without having to resort to the purchase of additional hardware or the need to install additional software as is the case with many other alternative access methods.

Hulu, if it's not broken, don't fix it. Your company will make far more money from ad revenue. Your execs have to respect the gamers so don't anger them with service disruptions that target the PS3 platform. If you study google's success, you'll see just how powerful successful ad revenue is. So now, my faithful, fellow PS3 fans and I are waiting for the next great company to capitalize off your first big blunder.
