Nico Nico Douga Broadcasting Shuttle Launch to Roll Out US Portal

NicoNicoDouga logoNico Nico Douga, or Simley Smiley Video in English is Japan’s interpretation of YouTube where users post videos and comment on them, with the trump card (or “killer app”) being that the user comments are overlaid over the video in real-time, imitating the experience of a live broadcast with real-time commentary.

The company behind NicoNicoDouga, Niwango (started by 2ch founder Hiroyuki Nishimura) will be officially opening the US portal by broadcasting the Shuttle Atlantis launch currently scheduled for November 16th according to NASA, with the goal of the launch being to foster communication between US and Japanese users.

Being an avid user of the Spanish portal myself, I was wondering when Niwango would roll out the US version and await the broadcast.
