Jul 22nd

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, more commonly known by the acronym AMPAS has that it has nominated the television production Afro Samurai: Resurrection in the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards and 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Animated Program for programming of one hour or more, with its closest competition being the DestinationImagination television special meant to end the recently ended Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends animated series produced by Cartoon Network.
Afro Samurai: Resurrection is the sequel to the hugely successful Afro Samurai television mini-series produced by Spike TV, Funimation Entertainment and adapted from the manga of the same name authored by Takashi Ozaki about and afro-haired samurai wandering across a futuristic yet feudal alternate-world Japan battling for supremacy while seeking closure for his father’s death.
Major Hollywood talent also contributed to the production of the film with actors Lucy Liu, Mark Hamill and Samuel L. Jackson providing voice talent while RZA (Robert Fitzgerald Diggs) from the Wu-Tang Clan provided the soundtrack for both adaptations.
