A newly formed film distribution company by the name of Cinema Arts Releasing, a wholly-owned a subsidiary of Eleven Arts Inc., has announced via press release that it has partnered with Funimation to distribute Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance to theaters in January 2011 as part of a limited nationwide theatrical run.

Further information on dates and locations is expected at a later date.  Funimation previously handled theatrical distribution of the first Eva film in 2009 with some success as it entered the film in various film festivals across the country.

The film is also scheduled to be released on Blu-Ray and DVD next year via Funimation in the updated 2.22 version.

Funimation has announced during its Otakon industry panel that it has acquired Hetalia World Series (seasons 3+4 and the feature film Paint it White), Strike Witches 2, Blessing of the Campanella (Shukufuku no Campanella), and Okamisan (Ōkami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi) anime series. All of the licenses include home video and streaming rights. Funimation has also announced the home video rights for the currently airing Strike Witches 2, which is streaming on competitor Crunchyroll.

Funimation has also announced that it has acquired Evangelion 2.0 You (Can Not) Advance, despite rumors that the licensing cost was pushed up to exorbitant levels due to Japanese popularity and that the distributor passed on the title, along with confirming previous reports of its acquisition of the Summer Wars feature film. As with the aforementioned titles, the licenses for Eva 2.0 and Summer Wars span home video, streaming and broadcast rights, as well as theatrical distribution rights.

Update: Funimation will also be streaming Strike Witches 2, while Crunchyroll’s current simulcast will continue as normal.
